About Ang Kami

Ang Kami started off working life like many others in the industry as a Porter.

At age 12 he worked 7 days a week carrying 50kg at a time from Jiri to Lukla.

As time progressed he started working with trekkers as they embarked on their treks from Lukla. Ang Kami was often found managing the stoves to heat water for clients. He got the opportunity to work as a cook on the Chhatra La Pass by chance as the existing kitchen aid didn’t wear sunglasses and damaged his eyes so Ang Kami stepped in to save the day.
He continued on as an assistant cook where he gained expedition cooking knowledge. He attended a cooking course in Kathmandu to develop more culinary skills – he has managed to preserve these skills as to this day he is a fantastic chef.

On a trip to Island Peak he got the opportunity to go climbing and work directly with the clients in a guiding capacity. The company received excellent feedback from the clients regarding his professionalism and this opened many doors for him.

He was given a golden opportunity to work with two western instructors – Carla Hule from Switzerland and Danny Brown from the UK. Ang Kami learned so much from his time with them both and accredits a lot of his successes to the training he received from them.

He has attended many training courses over the years including Nepal Mountaineering Association Basic training and progressed to complete the Advanced course. He also completed courses in Mountain Leadership, Porter awareness and specialist winter first aid. He also graduated from the world renowned Khumbu Climbing School.

He developed the skills learned by climbing many mountains with clients and lead many expeditions to mountains in Nepal to peaks such as Island Peak, Lobuche East, Mera Peak, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, Nayakang and Kongmache. He ventured outwith Nepal and successfully summited Aconcagua in Argentina and explored the Dolomites in Italy.

In 2008 Ang Kami was working as a Porter on Everest ferrying equipment between camps when he got an opportunity to climb higher and on the 27th May 2008 he achieved the ultimate mountaineering feat and reached the Top of the World at 13.30 climbing from the South. To reach the top of Everest that first time still remains one of his favourite moments – the sense of pure achievement that he now wants to pass on to his clients.

This was the first Everest Summit from a climber from Goli – the rural Sherpa village in the Solu region where Ang Kami was born and grew up.

On the 25th May 2010 he then went on to Summit Everest a second time but this time from the North.

He worked as part of Everest Expeditions in 2009, 2011 and 2014.

2014 was a year that sent shockwaves through the climbing community of not just Nepal but the world. After the tragic news spread of the sherac collapsing and killing 16 sherpa climbers and the rescue effort that followed. These climbers were not just other people on the mountain but colleagues and friends.
At the time of the collapse Ang Kami and some colleagues were around 10 minutes above the accident site. The noise was deafening. They were close enough to get covered by powdered snow and ice but thankfully out of harms way themselves.

Ang Kami also climbed Manaslu And Cho Oyu meaning he has completed 3 8000m peaks.

Laterly, he worked as head climbing sherpa for a large company in Nepal but decided to go it alone and set up his own company Dare to Dream Adventures in 2024.

Ang Kami has, over the years, lead and guided clients from all over the world to achieve their climbing goals. He has always done so with the highest regard for safety. The reviews and client feedback speak for themselves.
